GamblingNews Metro supplement
Hurst Media LaBs were commissioned with producing the GamblingNews supplement. The overarching message of the supplement set out to highlight the progress the gambling industry has made regarding responsible gambling as it doesn’t always get the coverage it deserves, especially within mainstream media. With this supplement, GamblingNews are allowing the reader to be aware of how far the industry has gone to ensure player protection. The supplement will also serve as a source of the latest news within the gambling industry, such as the annual ICE London conference.
The concept of responsible gambling has become the cornerstone of the industry in recent years. Consumer protection has taken precedence over customer profitability and operators are doing everything in their power to create a safe and entertaining space for all to enjoy.
From app-blocking technology and real-time pop-up reminders to deposit limits and Al tools, the gambling industry is making waves when it comes to protecting consumers innovatively and effectively. With the right parameters in place customers can stay in control of their gambling from the outset, preventing any potentially harmful habits from developing.
Creative process
Hurst Media LaBs worked alongside the GamblingNews team and their contributors to create this supplement. GamblingNews entrusted us with majority control over the creative process. After rounds of concepts and design ideas, we came to a layout that best suited their target audience, and would showcase the creativity of Hurst Media LaBs.
We established a visual direction that aligned with both the goals of GamblingNews, and the style of the newspaper within which it would be printed. The majority of the images used were provided by GamblingNews whilst some were sourced in house, in order to meet the highest of design standards. The copy and contributing editorial features were subedited in house, ensuring compliance with all relevant advertising and editorial standards.
The finished project
The goal was to produce an informative, eight-page supplement to promote the mission of GamblingNews and their advertising partners. This required an eye-catching and engaging design that would fit seamlessly within the Metro newspaper, inviting the reader to explore the world of responsible gambling and all that it entails.
Because this was printed as an eight-page supplement within the body of the Metro, as well as a separate publication for the ICE London conference, it was important to follow the Metro style guide, and also work as a standalone piece. The colours and typefaces of the finished supplement complemented Gambling News’ branding, whilst simultaneously honouring Metro’s house style and providing the viewer with a seamless reading experience.
